Police offices and law enforcement officials most often wear embroidered patches on their sleeves. Usually, this design is different from the design of their badge, but some police departments use the same design, creating a more uniform look.

Digital Recording - Getting Started / Getting Started with Computer-Based Recording and Production

Q: Is my PreSonus software compatible with Mac OS X 10.9 and iOS 7.

A: We found a problem with iOS 7 with the 1st Generation Mixers SL Remote and AudioBox 1818 VSL Remote where the applications landscape view shows up in portrait view with no access to the actual portrait view.

We do not recommend updating to iOS 7 at this time for these applications. Our Tech Specs pages have been updated as a result of this and an announcement will be made when a solution is made available.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and are reviewing the situation for an expedient solution.

A: The newer versions of SL Remote-Ai and QMix-Ai do work with iOS 7 and will not have any of the previously mentioned issues as found with the 1st Generation applications.

A: Our software has been tested with the latest builds of Mac OS X 10.9 and has returned no known issues in relation to the last releases of these operating systems.

Compatibility would be the same as for Mac OS X 10.8:

Songs: Missing Files Message

Technical Support Aug 06

Users may experience a dialog that says there are Missing Files that can t be found. There are a number of different scenarios that would cause this:

User has disconnected a hard drive that contained dependent audio files.

Sound Sets are missing or are not installed.

User only has a . song file with no associated Media Folder.

User has moved a Song from original location and did not move Media Folder along with it.

NOTE: It is possible that a user has dependent audio files scattered across different locations or even different hard drives. To remedy this users should open their Song. Then in the Studio One Browser, go to the Pool, right-click in the Pool and choose Copy External Files.

This will bring all referenced audio files that particular song needs, into it s Media Folder. So if a hard drive is removed that had dependent audio files, this would no longer be an issue.

Song Saving Options Explained

Many users get these confused so here are the differences between the Saving options in Studio One and when you would want to use them.

Save : Use this when you only want to save changes made to a song. This will overwrite the song s original song file replacing with the latest changes made in that song. Many users will do a Save As instead of a normal save because the Save option is grayed out. That s because changes have already been saved so there is no need to save.

Save As : Use this when you want to save a copy of the current song s . song file.

This option should not be used for backing up or sending song files to other users as it will not contain any media files needed by the song to open correctly.

This is a way to keep an alternate version of the song. It would be best to just save to the original song s Song Folder so that it is kept with it s appropriate Media Folder.  Doing this will also make the new version that was just saved the current opened Document. So any changes made will affect the new Save As version, not the original version.

Save New Version : Use this to save a new version of the current song. Versions are encapsulated within the original . song file. The only way to access a version is by right-clicking the song reference on the Start page of Studio One. It will show the different versions of a song that are available.

Save To New Folder : Use this to save a copy of a songs Song Folder structure. That includes the . song file, Media folder which contains all the audio, and Cache Folder. This would be the appropriate way to back up a song complete with it s audio files to a different location on your harddrive.

Making changes after doing this will edit the new copied version of the Studio One song, not the original. Alternatively, to back up, a user could copy the entire song s Song Folder from the hard drive to it s final destination.

The Right Tool For the Job

The first thing that s important to understand is that just like any specialized task, it s of utmost importance to have the right tool for the job. When it comes to working with real-time audio on a computer, your average off the shelf PC is often not well suited to this particular job. It s for this very reason that there are actually a number of companies that sell purpose-built PC s which are designed and tested to meet the particular requirements of audio and video work. These companies build Audio Workstation PCs that are certified and tested for doing audio production and recording:

It s also important to understand that it s never just a matter of processing power, memory capacity, or hard disk speed. These factors are certainly important, but you need not only a capable system, but also a system where all the parts and components work well together. Your average off the shelf computer from a local retailer may be inexpensive, and even packed full of features and powerful, but if the different components comprising this system don t work well together or even interfere with each other, you may end up with a system that by it s very nature just can t deal with real-time audio effectively, and you end up with drop-outs in your recordings, loss of connection, or any number of other problems.

Even a top dollar machine with all the bells and whistles can fail miserably when it comes to working with real-time audio. For instance, PC s spec d and designed for Gaming are usually real powerhouses in terms of system specifications, but very often the requirements and optimizations for the latest and greatest gaming system graphics and processor intensive tasks can be at odds with what an audio workstation needs, and the same video cards and graphics drivers that give you blazingly fast 3D graphics can cause major problems with such time-sensitive operations as real-time audio.

Real-time Audio and Operating Systems

Another thing to consider is that Windows PC s often require a fair bit of research and optimization when it comes to working with audio. We have our own knowledge base article on optimizing your computer for audio production:

Optimizing Windows Vista and Windows 7 for Music Production

You ll also find numerous similar guides from other manufacturers and websites as well:

Avid, maker of Pro Tools

Steinberg, maker of Cubase and Nuendo

Sweetwater Windows 7 Optimization Tips

Optimization Guide from createdigitalmusic.com

Here is a two part article on getting a computer for Audio production you may find useful as well:

Lifting the Lid on Audio Laptops - Part 1 and Part 2

There is also a company called Resplendence that actually makes a very useful tool for troubleshooting issues with PC hardware and drivers causing problems with real-time audio:

To quote directly from the Latency Mon site:

Windows is not a real-time operating system. All requests to the operating system are delivered on a best effort basis. There are no guarantees whatsoever that requests are delivered within a certain time frame, which are the characteristics of a real-time operating system. That is not a problem for most devices and tasks but this is bad news for audio applications which are considered soft real-time because they need to deliver data to the subsystem and the hardware in buffers several times per second. If one or more buffers miss their deadlines and are not delivered in time it has audible consequences which are recognized as dropouts, clicks and pops.

The bottom line is, while you can certainly use a Windows PC as an audio workstation, there s no guarantee that just any PC will be the right tool for what amounts to a  very specialized job.

Firewire Connection Considerations

Another consideration is the audio interface you use and the method of connection to your computer. In the case of a firewire audio interface, you will need to have an actual firewire connection. You may be able to find Firewire to USB adapters, and they may work for connecting external hard drives or cameras and other peripherals, but generally speaking, they will not work for audio interfaces.

If your computer does not have a firewire connection built in or often times even if it does, you will need to find an expansion card that will enable you to add a firewire connection to your computer.

The most important consideration is the firewire chipset of your firewire connection. You ll find that this is generally a requirement of any manufacturer of any firewire interface. Different firewire chipsets handle data differently, and some are better suited to the requirements of streaming multi-channel real-time audio.

Most Macs come with a built in firewire connection that has a compatible chipset, or if it s a newer Mac without firewire but it has Thunderbolt ports, you can use the Apple Thunderbolt to firewire adapter, which also uses a compatible chipset and functions essentially the same as an add-in firewire card.

You can find Windows PC s with built in firewire, but they usually use firewire chipset that s unsupported, so normally you ll need to get an add-in firewire card of some sort that does use a compatible firewire chipset.

AudioBox Family / AudioBox USB

Q: Why won t my AudioBox record or play audio.

A: If you can t get a recording or playback signal to pass through your AudioBox, or if you can t get recording to engage in your DAW digital audio workstation software, check for the common situations below. This guide, while written for PreSonus Studio One 2, should generally apply to most current DAW software.

1. Make sure that the AudioBox is plugged into the same USB port as when the driver was originally installed. For more information regarding this, check out this article at our Knowledge Base.

2. Make sure that you have plugged the AudioBox into your computer before you start Studio One.

3. Check that you are using a USB cable shorter than 9 feet 3 meters, and that you aren t plugging in through a USB hub or extension cable. If you are using a desktop computer, please reinstall the driver on a USB port on the back of the system. The USB ports on the front of your computer may be a simple distributed hub, not true USB ports.

4. Verify that you are plugging your AudioBox into a USB 2.0 port, not a USB 3.0 port. For more info on this topic, please visit this article.

5. Make sure that the AudioBox is selected as your Audio Device in your DAW. In Studio One, simply click Studio One from within the program, then Options. Then select Audio Setup and check the Audio Device drop-down box.

6. Make sure that your speakers or headphones are plugged into your AudioBox, not your computer. If the AudioBox is your Audio Device in Studio One, then all sound will pass in and out of the AudioBox, not the computer s sound card.

7. Verify that the AudioBox is receiving a signal. The Mixer knob on the front of the AudioBox changes the blend of the output signal from the AudioBox. The Inputs setting directly monitors the analog inputs of the AudioBox, while Playback monitors the signal coming from the computer. An in-between position creates a blend of these two signals.

If you turn the Mixer knob fully counterclockwise to Inputs, and you connect functional speakers, headphones, and an input device such as a mic, guitar, or bass to the AudioBox, you should hear audio. If you don t, check your cabling and verify that all of your components are functioning properly.

For Audio generated on the computer like iTunes or YouTube, you will need to set the mixer knob to Playback to monitor the sound coming from your computer. For instructions on how to set up the AudioBox as your default audio device on your computer please see this this article.

8. Verify that you have set the gain for your inputs properly. Use this method to receive a usable signal in your DAW:

Plug your input source mic, guitar, etc. into an input on your AudioBox. If using a condenser microphone, see step 9.

Set the Mixer knob to Inputs

If you are using headphones, turn the Phones knob to the 12 O clock position

If you are using speakers, turn the Main knob to the 12 O clock position

Speak into your mic or play your instrument, then SLOWLY turn up the gain for the channel you are using until you begin to hear a signal. For instance, if you have a microphone plugged into the left input on an AudioBox USB, this would be knob 1.

Continue to turn the gain up for that channel until the red clip LED illuminates

Roll the channel back while inputting a signal until the clip LED ceases to illuminate

9. If you are using a condenser microphone, make sure that the 48V button on the front of the AudioBox is pressed and illuminated. This will supply energy, called phantom power to your condenser mic.

Note: Do not plug or unplug the XLR cable from the AudioBox while 48V is engaged. Additionally, 48V is not sent through the 1/4 inputs on the AudioBox, so if your condenser micis plugged in via the 1/4 stage, it will not work.

10. Make sure that your tracks are record-enabled and monitor-enabled. These buttons should be red and blue, respectively, as in the picture below. Additionally, make sure that each track is set to record from the appropriate input; in the image below, Track 1 is set to record from Input L, and Track 2 is set to record from Input R. If you click these buttons, you can select a different input source.

Note: If no inputs are visible, or not all inputs are visible, see the step below to set up your inputs and outputs I/O.

11. Make sure that your audio I/O inputs and outputs are properly set up. You can use the AudioBox USB template when creating a new song in Studio One but if you create an empty song, or open someone else s project, check your I/O to make sure it s configured correctly.

Below is an example of a proper configuration for the AudioBox USB, with two mono inputs, one stereo input, and one stereo output.

For more information on configuring I/O in Studio One, check out section 4.3 of the current Studio One 2 manual. You can also access this manual from within Studio One by clicking Help Contents.

14. If you re using an AudioBox VSL, make sure that a firmware update isn t pending. If you open the AudioBox control panel, and a firmware update is pending, you will be immediately notified to update the firmware. If the AudioBox controls are accessible, meaning that you can move the faders and manipulate the other controls, no firmware update is pending.

Note: When performing a firmware update, it is imperative that you do not unplug or otherwise alter the AudioBox, or it could damage the unit. PreSonus recommends that you do not utilize the computer or the unit while allowing the firmware to update.

13. Uninstall and reinstall the AudioBox driver on your system, following the instructions below:

Note: If you believe you are having connectivity issues, such as the device not being recognized by Windows or Mac OS X when plugged in, make sure to check your USB cable with one you are certain works, as well as try all USB ports on the system.

If you re still having issues, please open a support ticket at our support site. If you already have an open ticket, create a system profile of your computer using the following process, and send it to your current support agent:

For Windows users:

Click Start All Programs Accessories System Tools System Information

Q: How do I properly connect my StudioLive to my PC.

A: In order to connect your StudioLive to your PC, you ll need a PC with a FireWire card or built-in FireWire port. First, you ll want to check to see if your computer already has a FireWire port built-in. Examine your computer or its documentation for any ports resembling those below:

If you have a port such as these above, you can install the Universal Control driver available on the Downloads page for the version of your operating system, then connect the StudioLive with the appropriate cable. From there, you should be up-and-running and ready to record. For more information on the different types of FireWire connections, please see this document.

Though most users never experience problems with their setup, sometimes it is necessary to troubleshoot the FireWire system. Below are the common situations in which the FireWire system needs to be examined:

1. The minimal technical specifications found on our website must be met to ensure proper performance. Note that having the minimum requirements also requires that your system be optimized properly in order to ensure that no crashes, freezes, blue screens, or other errors are experienced while using the mixer.

See the below Technical Specifications for you StudioLive mixer:

StudioLive 16.0.2 Tech Specs

StudioLive 16.4.2 Tech Specs

StudioLive 24.4.2 Tech Specs

Optimizing your PC for audio:

Optimizing your System for Windows 7/Vista

Optimizing your System for Windows XP

2. We have a Known Compatible and Incompatible Hardware list that details which FireWire chipsets are and are not compatible with our products. While FireWire is a standardized protocol, different chipset manufacturers create alterations to industry specifications which can result in loss of sync, poor bandwidth, and other issues. Before purchasing a StudioLive mixer or FireWire solution, please make sure it adheres to the list above.

Checking the chipset of your computer s FireWire bus:

There are two ways to check your computer s FireWire chipset for compatibilty. See the steps below for details on these processes:

1. If you are using the latest version of Universal control 1.7 or higher then the information is found on the UC Control window under Settings OHCI Info

2. Once the window below is visible, compare the information to that provided in the Known Compatible and Incompatible Hardware. If your chipset does not meet the compatibility requirements, you ll need to purchase a new FireWire solution that does. There is a list in the above document that details specific cards that we have tested in-house.

If you are not able to use the latest version of Universal Control 1.7 and have this feature because you are using Windows XP, you can download this tool with the two links provided:

OHCI Tool 1  this is for older systems who s motherboards might be older.  Run the Tool and click Scan Now

OCHI Tool 2  Use this tool for newer systems if the card does not show up on the older tool.  Run the tool and click Scan Now

Results will show like so on the ohcitool:

3. Take the chipset information provided in the OHCI tool link and match it with the current Known Compatible and Incompatible Hardware List. If it does not match, purchase one of the approved cards on the document and install it on the computer.

How do I install my external FireWire solution.

For Desktop PCs:

For a desktop PC, you ll need to determine what type of PCI solution your computer uses. There are two types: PCI and PCI Express. In order to know what kind of card you would need, you would need to examine your computer s motherboard, or the documentation that came with your computer. Below is a picture detailing the different visual appearances of PCI Express and PCI slots:

A PCIe card can be inserted into a slot of its own size or larger. For example, a PCIe x1 card can fit into a PCIe x4 and x16 card; however, a PCIe x4 card cannot fit into a PCIe x1 card.

NOTE: If your computer has both PCIe and PCI cards, you would want to make use of the PCIe card, as the PCI Express architecture will offer much improved bandwidth over PCI. Since PCI is an older legacy standard that has been superseded by PCI Express, on a computer with both PCIe and PCI slots, the PCI slot must transmit data through a bridge chip, decreasing bandwidth and resulting in problematic behavior and reduced performance. For this reason PreSonus recommends using PCIe FireWire solutions whenever possible. For more information on this, check out this article from Intel.

For Laptop PCs:

On a laptop, you would need an ExpressCard slot in order to add FireWire support. There are no functional solutions to convert from USB to FireWire, SATA to FireWire, etc. If your laptop doesn t have an ExpressCard slot or built-in FireWire port, then you would not be able to use that computer with a FireWire device. Below is an image of both an ExpressCard port and 34-millimeter ExpressCard adapter:

For more information on ExpressCard slot s, check out this article.

SL Remote and QMix Troubleshooting Guide

StudioLive Mixer Family / SL Remote and QMix

Video on connecting SL Remote and the StudioLive mixer:

1enkzuX-Z5A

These instructions will help you connect your iOS device with SL Remote or QMix to control your mixer.  Make sure to read/watch the additional documentation and content to further familiarize yourself with these products.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1:   Being up to date with the latest version of Universal Control

Note: For AudioBox 1818VSL users, you simply need the latest driver, available here.

Make sure that you are using the latest version of Universal Control from our website.  You can find that here in the link below:

To learn how to properly update your mixer s firmware, click the link here:

Updating StudioLive Firmware

Download Universal Control here:

Universal Control Downloads

Step 2:  Set up your Router:

When it comes to connecting with SL Remote and QMix with your iPad or iPhone/iPod, you want to try and keep the connection simple.  If you can dedicate a router for use with SL Remote, and connect it directly to your computer, this would be the most ideal situation. Presonus has not qualified and does not recommend any specfic routers, but there are no special requirements or configuration for SL Remote, so most any router should work.

Generally a mid-range priced router from any major manufacturer should be sufficient. Some of the very inexpensive low-end routers can lack certain capabilities, and sometimes the more expensive higher-end routers have certain extra or advanced features enabled by default than can cause problems. One good feature to look for though is a Dual Band capable router that can operate at both 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

You can read more about Dual Band wireless here:

Things to do with your router and computer before attempting to connect your iOS devices:

Make sure to read all documentation with the router you have purchased.  Since you are connecting your iOS device wirelessly, the main and perhaps only configuration of the router that you ll need to do is to create and configure a wireless network. Your router s documentation should have all the information you need in order to do so.

Range in the venue you are mixing in is important.  Different routers with different antennae designs, operating at different frequency bands and wireless channels, will all vary in their wireless coverage range. The building or location you re in also plays a part, both in terms of structural interference concrete walls, steel construction walls, etc. and wireless interference other networks, RF noise from other electrical equipment, etc.. The 2.4Ghz band tends to be more susceptible to this RF interference, whereas the higher 5Ghz band is less susceptible to interference from other devices and networks, with a slight tradeoff in coverage range and signal penetration.  If your iOS device supports 5Ghz wireless though, it may provide the most stable connection.

If you re connecting the computer to the router wirelessly, make sure the router doesn t isolate wireless clients from each other. Along the same lines, make sure if you ve got a dual band router that it s not creating two separate and isolated wireless networks for each band.

If you have the computer plugged in with an ethernet cable, make sure you re not plugged into the Internet port on the router this is for a cable/DSL modem, maybe colored yellow, but instead into one of the standard network switch ports usually 4 or 5 of them in a group.

Make sure your Subnet and Router IP Address both show up on the Network Configuration page on both the Computer side and the iOS device side, and that both the computer and iOS device have an IP address within the same range i.e. 192.168.0.xx and 192.168.0.yy are in the same range, 192.168.0.xx and 192.168.1.yy are not .  That will make sure that they re on the same network and the proper network connection can be made.

Make sure the router is not somehow blocking the following ports:

For AudioBox VSL Remote:

 TCP 7069

 UDP 7070 7071

 QMix and SL Remote Ports:

 TCP 6969

 UDP 6970 6971

Step 3:  Download and Install the QMix and/or SL Remote app s on your iOS device

Please note the specs of the network connections for your iOS device by going to the apple websites below for their tech specs:

- Make sure your iOS device is up to date. Go to Settings General Software Update

Supported devices list and Spec Sheets:

The following iOS devices are compatible with SL Remote running iOS 4 or later :

Apple support document on iOS WiFi connection troubleshooting:

Step 4:  Connecting the Device to your computer.

Connect your StudioLive Mixer to your computer via Firewire, power on mixer then the computer, and launch Universal Control.  Setup permissions for your iOS devices. Refer to page 39 of the StudioLive Software Library reference manual:

StudioLiveSoftware_ReferenceManual_EN.pdf

For AudioBox 1818VSL users, once you ve installed the VSL software and driver, the device simply needs to be connected to the computer via USB.

Note: If you have any connection difficulties via wireless networking, follow the troubleshooting instructions below:

Troubleshooting your SL Remote/QMix application:

Having more than one active network connection can cause problems with SL Remote and VSL communication. If you re connecting your computer to the router with a cable, try disabling your wireless adapter, or if you are connecting the computer wirelessly to the router, try unplugging your network cable from the computer or disable the Ethernet connection. If you have Virtual Machine software on your computer, it often creates a virtual network adapter for the VM to use. Even these virtual network adapters can cause connection issues with SL Remote, so it is advised to disable them in the Network Settings or Network Configuration of your computer.

NOTE: This also applies if your iPad has WWAN cellular data capability. If you have cell data turned on while also being connected to your router with WiFi, you have two active network connections and it will cause problems with SL Remote being able to connect.

Try turning off wireless security first until you can make sure you get a successful connection. If you need to enable wireless security you can come back and enable it later. If you have a firewall enabled, turn it off and try connecting SL Remote/Qmix again.

Try removing the SL Remote/QMix application from your device s open applications. This can be done by double tapping your Home button on your iPad. Your open Apps will be listed. If you touch and hold the SLRemote, there will be a small, red, delete button. Click on this, and then relaunch the SLRemote App.

Reset the Network Settings in your iPad. Go to Settings General Reset Reset Network Settings.

Try setting up an Ad-hoc wireless network on your computer instead of using a router and connect your iOS device to that wireless network.

Mac Only  Make sure you have installed any and all system updates, especially anything related to Airport if you are connecting your computer wirelessly to the router or through an ad-hoc connection to the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch

Mac Only Change the service order of your devices. Service order is the priority system of what devices show up first once the device is able to connect. Open System Preferences Network, click on the gear symbol underneath the list of devices click Set Service Order drag to change the service order so the connection you are using is at the top of the list.

Mac Only Try and Resetting Network settings on your Mac computer.  Move the Caches folder in Library to the Trash, empty the trash, and then restart the computer.

Try uninstalling and re-installing the driver on your computer.  See the instructions below to do a manual Uninstall and Reinstall of the Universal Control Driver and check the connectivity again:

Of late, many existing and prospective PreSonus StudioLive users have inquired about our decision not to support the Android platform with remote-control applications like StudioLive Remote and QMix. We understand the enthusiasm for the Android platform, and given the number of inquiries we ve received, we felt it best to formally address the question.

iOS and Android are based on different and mutually incompatible technologies. We cannot adapt our existing iOS versions of StudioLive Remote and QMix to function on Android and would have to rewrite the software from the ground up.

Furthermore, unlike iOS, Android devices are not standardized. Android devices run numerous Android OS versions and feature varied screen sizes. To support this range of variables would multiply development time, as we would have to test, tweak, and maintain the software for any and all variations of Android OS and device screen size. Our iOS applications provide a great user experience in part because the fixed sizes of the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad screens allow us to design for known and expected hardware and a single OS.

In addition, we frequently update our software to add new features. If we included Android, our mobile applications would take longer to release, we would not be able to release as many updates, and the applications would provide a less consistent user experience.

Therefore, in order to provide a superior user experience and ensure our ability to regularly update and improve our software, we have chosen to focus our time on rich, new features instead of platform parity. For these reasons, we ve decided to stick with iOS for the near future.

Why would I need to Uninstall Reinstall my drivers.

I have a Red Exclamation Mark on Universal Control Icon

My Universal Control crashing when I launch it

My device window not opening properly or not at all

My Universal Control launch window display driver version 0.0.0

Answer:

There is a known issue that prevents the FireStudio family driver from properly overwriting earlier versions of its files on some systems. This can create a driver conflict that prevents the control panel from working properly. A complete manual uninstall of the driver can resolve this issue.

NOTE: Since the release of Universal Control 1.7, we now have an uninstaller for OSX 10.6.8 and later ONLY which will remove all Universal Control and Firestudio related files just as a manual uninstall would. Download Universal Control 1.7 for Mac, double click on the Presonus_Universal_Control_17.dmg that you downloaded, and run the Un-installer first., then continue with the uninstall and re-install process starting with the section Removing. bom and. plist files below

If you do need to do the manual uninstall by hand, the instructions are as follows:

Manually Removing FireStudio family Driver Files

1. Disconnect your FireStudio Family interface

2. Double click on MacHD to launch a new finder window. The following list includes every possible file that may have been installed on your Mac, depending on which driver versions you have installed. If you do not see one of these files, do not be alarmed. The files are listed by location tree. For example, to locate the MacHD/Library/Preferences/PaeFireStudio.startup file, you will double click on MacHD and Open the Library folder. In the Library folder, you will open the Preferences folder where you will find the PaeFireStudio.startup file. This is the file you will move to the Trash.

Delete the following from your computer note some files will require that you type in your administrative password :

MacHD/Applications/Universal Control

MacHD/Applications/FireStudio Control Console

MacHD/Applications/FireControl

MacHD/Applications/FireStudio Lightpipe Mixer

MacHD/Applications/StudioLive

MacHD/Library/Application Support/PaeFireStudio

MacHD/Library/Application Support/PreSonus

MacHD/Library/Audio/MIDIDrivers/PAEFireStudioMIDIdriver.plugin

MacHD/Library/Preferences/PaeFireStudio.startup

MacHD/Library/Receipts/PreSonusUniversalControl.pkg

MacHD/Library/Startup Items/PaeFireStudio

MacHD/System/Library/Extensions/PaeFireStudio.kext

If you are using OSX 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, the User Library folder is hidden. To get to it, with Finder open click the GO menu at the top, or control-click on Finder in the Dock, then select Go To Folder and enter: /Library. This is necessary for deleting the next 4 files

MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME /Library/Caches/Juce/jucAppLock_Universal Control

MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/Caches/Juce/Universal Control

MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME /Library/Preferences/FireControlSettings.settings

MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/PreSonus

Removing. bom and. plist files

If you ve done the UC 1.7 uninstall script method above, and these files are not there, you can proceed with the next section.

Note: if you use Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion, you also need to do the following:

a Right Click the Finder

b From the pop-up window select Go To Folder

c Paste or type in this string:       /private/var/db/receipts

d In the folder that opens, find the files that have Universal Control in the label and move them to the Trash.

For example, you are looking for:

com.PreSonus.pkg.Universal Control.bom

com.PreSonus.pkg.Universal Control.plist

Repairing Disk Permissions

5. Go to MacHD/Applications/Utilities/ and open Disk Utility

6. Select your System drive Mac HD from list on the left

7. Click Repair Disk Permissions

8. Once your Disk Permissions have been repaired, Shut down not restart your Mac

Resetting your PRAM

9. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously

10. Turn on the computer

11. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

12. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

13. Release the keys. At this point, your computer should be completely zeroed out and you can reinstall.

Downloading and Installing the latest driver

14. Go to

15. Download the driver for you FireStudio family product from the PreSonus website. The zipped file will be automatically extracted and stored in the Downloads folder on your computer unless you have manually changed this preference in Safari.

16. Quit your web browser and any other application you have running

17. Go to MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME/Downloads and locate the PreSonus_Universal_Control_XX.dmg file.

18. The. dmg file is a disk image. Double click it to open the disk image on your desktop

19. In the window that comes up there will be an Uninstaller script, and a. pkg installer package.

20. Double click on PreSonus Universal Control.pkg to launch the installer

21. When the installer launches, click Continue

22. Click on the icon of your Internal hard drive and click Continue

23. Click Install

24. When the installation has finished, click Finish

25. Reboot your computer

26. Once your computer has rebooted, connect your StudioLive mixer interface. When your interface has synced with your computer, it is ready for use.

Dell Usb 6-button Laser Mouse Driver

A very quick free tool, that checks all your DELL Drivers driver, Dell usb laser mouse driver download device how to install: Nov 2013: Device Freeze: Yes.

With a Dell USB 6 button laser mouse. Information on the bottom of the mouse is as follows: M-UAV-DEL8. D P/N J660D. mouse USB uses the same driver.

This question is not answered

Posted by

last2neurons

Can anyone please point me to the driver for the above mentioned mouse please.

Background is that I took delivery last week of a Studio XPS 435MT.  But the 64 bit Vista Home system installed had no driver for the mouse.  So the generic driver recognised only the 2 standard buttons plus scroll wheel and speed changer.

I have failed to find a driver on the disc provided, on Dell s site, or elsewhere.  Indeed, the only reference I can find on the Dell site is obscure: ca l en s corp sku J661D

Now the reference there to Logitech may mean it is a rebadged product from them but it s not easy to see which one.

And the reference to J661D does not lead to much more.

An expensive phone call for the UK Dell use a rip-off 0870 number produced no constructive suggestions.

Have you tried loading the Logitech SetPoint drivers for Vista 64-bit off of the Logitech website.

That would be my next step.

Thanks.  The Logitech s/w allows me to use the previous/next buttons for those functions.  But I still cannot configure the wheel click nor change the side buttons to do anything other than previous/next.   The wheel click is not shown in the interface although it is recognised - it toggles scrolling.

Apparently Dell sell similar mice with pN j664d.  But there are no drivers for that flavour of Dell Laser Mouse.

I know it s only a mouse but it s rather sad really - and could have left someone new to hardware issues more than a little confused.

modul8r

Over a year since Last2Neurons post and I still can t find a driver for this mouse either.  It is still not on Dell s website, nor is it on the driver disks that ship with their latest computers which come with this mouse    I have other mice, but I sure would like to use this to its potential because it tracks better than any other mouse I own.

If anyone has found this driver in the past  year please let me in on the secret.

Thanks.

RJQuinn

It s been nearly two years since the original post, and nobody from support has managed to take the time to respond. I m having an issue with the same mouse. I think this will probably be the last Dell I buy.

RoHe

Assuming you re using Logitech s Setpoint software, go here and read up on UberOptions.

This guy doesn t work for Logitech but he s been writing tweaks for their Setpoint software for eons. I ve used his UberOptions tweaks with several different Logitech mice over the years to make them do exactly what I want them to do, not what Logitech thinks they should do.

My current MX1000 laser mouse has 8 buttons, plus scroll wheel and tilt scroll wheel.  Every single one of those is configured my way using UberOptions.

Right now, UberOptions supports Setpoint v. 4.80, which certainly isn t the latest version, but there are both 32- and 64-bit versions of 4.80, and links on the UberOptions site to download that version of Setpoint.

He s currently working on UberOptions for Setpoint v6.0, and you can download that version of UberOptions, but you ll have to manually specify some file locations with this version of UberOptions to get it to work with Setpoint 6.0   all spelled out on his site, at least until he gets it automated.

Hope this helps.

Did everything in here, nothing worked. Ended up installing XMouse a free application to program mouse buttons and works like a charm. It s a software, so no driver-based mess ups with it.

You can get it here: www.highrez.co.uk//XMouseButtonControl.htm

When in the main configuration window, just click the button you want to program. The drop-down menu that corresponds to that button will turn from white to yellow, so you know how it s labeled.

Thanks. It works perfectly

Editing the registry as you suggested worked for me.

I started having this error after I uninstalled all Symantec products that were on my computer. A search shows s32evnt1.dll, symevnt.386, symevnt1.dll, and symevent.sys are still on my computer. Can I safely delete these files. I have renamed s32evnt1.dll to s32evnt1.bak as a test. I don t see that any Symantec files are needed if I ve gotten rid of all Symantec applications.

S32EVNT1.DLL reference in DOS persists from Norton

I know this thread is old, and unfortunately the link in how to get rid of it is dead. And I would prefer not editing my Registry with 3yo info.

I have that same error citing a missing S32EVNT1.DLL file, once I got rid of all my Norton directories and tried to run some of my trusty DOS programs. Yes, I was able to satisfy the error by copying just that file from another machine before I killed it s Norton files but the date of the DDL is from my last install attempt on that machine this month, so it seems to be a current file, and I am afraid of what my happen in the future as this file ages, and as those that might know the answer die off.

I have searched for files that refer to this file and have found none. Any advice on how to eliminate the pointer to this Norton reminant.

Windows XP: error message

Here is the solution:

SYMPTOMS

After you install some programs, one of the following error messages may appear when you attempt to run 16-bit programs:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

drive: program path

XXXX. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization. Choose Close to terminate the application.

-or-

SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose Close to terminate the application.

In some cases, clicking Ignore allows the program to run properly, but the error message continues to be displayed when you start 16-bit programs.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following registry value has become corrupted:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control VirtualDeviceDrivers VDD

This issue may occur after you install a 16-bit program, or a program that uses a 16-bit installation program, that is not Windows 2000 compliant.

Watch those post dates

While it s true that the original poster has probably long since moved on, with the magic of Google, other people can find this thread when they re having the same problem, and see the final correct answer. That s what I did, and I was very glad that it helped me solve my problem.

Value to Set

Thank you very much for posting this information; it enabled me to solve my problem. But I would like to clarify something I m a bit new to registry editing, so I wasn t sure exactly what to do. I right clicked on Default and chose Modify. For Value Data I put 1. Was that the right thing to do. It seemed to work. Before it said value not set. Now under Data it says 1. Does it just need to have something. Does it not matter what it is.
